The University of Edinburgh also provides secure bike stores for visitors, staff and students. Sheltered bike parking with CCTV coverage is also available at Edinburgh Waverley train station.

Use CycleStreets or QuietRoutes to plan your journey.

Bus

ECCI is well served by buses from all over the city. The University of Edinburgh also provides a shuttle bus for staff and students between the Central Area and King's Buildings.

Want to know when the next bus is coming? Lothian Buses' BusTracker app gives you up to the minute information on bus times, stops and routes.

Across Edinburgh City centre, with the exception of the Airlink bus, you can buy a single adult ticket for £1.60 when you board the bus. The correct change is required. Find out about the full range of fare options on the Lothian Buses website.

A One-Ticket is a combined season ticket for unlimited travel by bus and rail in East Central Scotland.

Train

ECCI is within easy walking distance of Edinburgh Waverley, the city's main train station. Visit the National Rail website to plan your train jouney.

Edinburgh Waverley is in the heart of the city and very close to ECCI and the rest of the University of Edinburgh Central Area. You can travel from the station to the Central Area:

  • By taxi - a one-way taxi fare from the station to the University of Edinburgh's Central Area costs approximately £7.

Electric vehicle

ECCI has two Elektromotive Electrobay 305 electric vehicle charging posts.

Charging plug output is 22kW (32 Amps) AC - Three Phase and they are Type 2 (EN62196-2), Mode 3 (EN61851-1) compliant.

Access cards for the Charge Your Car network of pay-as-you-go EV charge points will work with these posts. Our Charge Your Car site number is 50389.

Visitors using ECCI's charging points should sign in at reception and leave their mobile phone number.

City Car Club

ECCI is the site for the UK's first City Car Club electric vehicle. ECCI staff and residents are entitled to one year's free membership.

Car

ECCI doesn't have its own car park. There is limited on-street parking in the area, and it is expensive and designed for short stays. However, if you have a Blue Badge for disabled parking the charges are waived.

There are two car parks within walking distance of ECCI - Blackfriars Street just off the Royal Mile and St John's Hill on the Pleasance.

The City of Edinburgh Council provides a list of all city centre car parks, including maps and realtime information on space availability. There is further information on the council's parking web page.
