Scotland Lights Up Malawi Celebration Event

Tuesday 21 February, 2017
10:00am to 12:30pm
Edinburgh Centre for Carbon Innovation

Scotland Lights Up Malawi, a pioneering project initiated by Scotland’s 2020 Climate Group, comes to the end of it's first phase this year. Funded by the Scottish Government and delivered by Keep Scotland Beautiful (KSB), Glasgow Caledonian University, Dunelm Energy and SolarAid, the project aimed to engage all sectors of Scottish society in the issue of climate justice and access to clean energy.

At this celebration event we will celebrate the successes and learning points of the project as well as discuss how we can take the initiative forward.

The Scotland Lights Up Malawi project is supporting Scotland’s ambitions for climate justice by raising awareness of, and investing in, solar lights for Malawi, undertaking research into climate justice and educating children both in Scotland and in Malawi.

Over five years the project has invested in 100,000 solar lights, saving 24,700 tonnes of CO2 emissions, which has provided 287,000 people with lighting. The project has worked with over 20 school clusters educating children in Scotland on the related issues of climate change and poverty.

This event will bring together delivery partners: Scotland’s 2020 Climate Group, Keep Scotland Beautiful (KSB), Dunelm Energy, Glasgow Caledonian University, SolarAid and the Scottish Government who funded the initiative, to launch the projects Phase One report and celebrate its successes!
