ECCI heads to the Capitol for energy entrepreneurship
31 May 2013
ECCI Business Manager Andrew Mitchell has been invited back to Washington DC for a second year, to participate in a prestigious “investor connect” event.
The event is hosted by the US Department of Energy; along with organisations such as Silicon Valley Bank, Siemens Venture Capital, Garage Technology Ventures and serial-entrepreneur-guru Steve Blank.
In 2012 Andrew attended the inaugural National Clean Energy Business Plan Competition, opened by Nobel Prize winner Steven Chu, the then US Secretary of Energy. He also attended a VIP awards session and panel discussion in the White House; hosted by Todd Park, Obama’s Chief Technology Officer and David Danielson, Assistant Secretary, US Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy.
Launched in 2011, the competition is part of the Obama Administration's Startup America Initiative. It was inspired by and builds on the MIT Clean Energy Prize which was co-founded by Bill Aulet. Aulet has, since 2008, worked closely with Informatics Ventures and ECCI to help develop Scotland’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.
Andrew will be blogging about the six finalist startups and all the other investor action whilst in Washington DC from 10th to 13th June 2013. The six finalist companies are:
Northwestern University, SiNode Systems
North Carolina A&T University, Bioadhesive Alliance Inc.
Purdue University, Bearing Analytics
Brigham Young University, Invironment
University of Arkansas, Picasolar
University of California Berkeley, Pyro-E
The trip follows ECCI associate Stefan Buetner's trip to Washington DC earlier this year in contribution to the Energy 2030 plan. More info: http://www.edinburghcentre.org/news/US-Energy-Commission
