About the Low Carbon Innovation Project
The Edinburgh Centre for Carbon Innovation is the UK’s leading low carbon hub. We aim to play a key role in facilitating the transition to a low carbon economy – a challenge that requires a concerted, integrated effort spanning civic society, business, government and academia.
Running from 2011-2015, LCI addressed the systemic failure of innovation in Scotland, helping to develop a cohort of innovative low carbon small and medium sized enterprises, while being instrumental in delivering significant economic impact and carbon savings.
LCI focused on understanding the challenges facing enterprises developing low carbon products and services, and building clusters of expertise – with close collaboration between Universities, enterprises and the public sector in Scotland – to help solve these challenges.
LCI helped bring about a breakdown of traditional barriers: Universities working in partnership with SMEs, business, government and civic society to develop responsive solutions based on excellent research and learning.
