Green Entrepreneurs rush to enter the Green Challenge following ECCI event
11 June 2012
The odds of a Scot winning the £40k Green Challenge prize were looking pretty healthy this week as organisers reported a steep spike in entries from the UK following the kick-off event hosted at ECCI.
The Postcode Lottery Green Challenge is offering £400,000 funding and expert business support for the best idea and business plan for a product or service that helps reduce CO2 emissions. Last month ECCI teamed up with Green Challenge organisers, the People's Postcode Lottery, to host the first Scotland-based kick-off event with previous winner Dean Gregory, The Power Collective.
Dean said; “The Green Challenge has given us the most incredible boost – both financially and in terms of business advice and contacts. The UK is brimming with incredible green ideas, and this initiative is a truly fantastic way of making them a reality.”
Sustainable entrepreneurs can enter their business plans for sustainable, creative and innovative products and services on the Green Challenge website: http://www.greenchallenge.info. The best business plan will win 500,000 EUR, and an additional 200,000 EUR is available for one or two other promising plans. Entries close on July 31st.
ECCI’s Executive Director Andy Kerr said:
“ECCI is delighted to be supporting the Green Challenge by hosting this event. We firmly believe that innovation – be that in business, society or in policy and governance – is the key to overcoming the challenges of creating a low carbon future. Scotland has proven itself a leader in producing companies and individuals eager to create innovation new products, solutions and working methods, so we hope this event will help us find the next winning Green Challenge entrepreneur in our own back yard.”
