ECCI hosts senior delegation of Chinese leaders for low carbon training
17 February 2012
A delegation of senior Chinese leaders visited ECCI for training on low carbon policy implementation this week. The senior delegation of 25 officials from the Chinese National Development & Reform Commission (NDRC) and the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office spent one week at the centre’s base at the University of Edinburgh undertaking an intensive bespoke programme on ‘Low Carbon Economic Policy & Implementation’.
The National Development & Reform Commission is China's economic planning agency for formulating economic and social development and restructuring China's economic system. ECCI designed and delivered a tailor-made programme to help the Chinese delegates understand how to develop and implement a low carbon economy, with specific work-strands geared at improving resource efficiency, reducing reliance on fossil fuels and supporting new (low carbon) market opportunities. The programme marks ECCI and its partners as a global thought leader on developing the low carbon economy and ninvolved input from Edinburgh academics, as well as extensive input from businesses, enterprise agencies, Scottish & UK Governments.
Then programme marks the beginning of ECCI’s training programmes & Executive Education in carbon management, carbon finance, carbon accounting and follows a pilot training programme in China last year. Further pilot studies are planned for India (Mumbai) in early summer 2012; and the Centre’s online offerings are planned for launch later in the year.
