How to get here

Our central location means that we have easy access to both taxis and public transport. We’re also just a short walk away from Edinburgh’s main train station, trams and airport transfer links.

Walk

We’re about 15 minutes on foot from Edinburgh Waverley railway station. If you’re coming into the Old Town from that direction, cross the Royal Mile and head south along South Bridge. After a couple of blocks, you’ll see Infirmary Street to your left. Walk to the end of Infirmary Street, and you’ll see our building straight ahead.

Cycle

We’re a five-minute cycle ride from Edinburgh Waverley, and within easy cycling distance of the city's other main transport hubs.

Try CycleStreets or QuietRoutes to plan your journey.

We have two secure bike stores and a number of bike stands. The University of Edinburgh also offers secure bike stores for visitors, staff and students. Or there’s sheltered bike parking with CCTV coverage at Edinburgh Waverley railway station if that’s more convenient for you.

Edinburgh has the option to hire bikes across the city for single or multiple journeys.  Details on where to hire a bike in Edinburgh can be found on You Well  guide.

Worked up a sweat? Not to worry; we have shower facilities that you’re welcome to use.

Bus

We’re big fans of Edinburgh’s handy and wide-ranging bus network. With frequent services to pretty much every part of the city and suburbs, it’s easy to get around. Lothian Buses is the main city centre operator, and many of their buses stop on our doorstep.

The Lothian Buses website has a journey planner, bus route maps, live service updates, timetables, ticket pricing and more.

You can also download the Lothian Buses Transport for Edinburgh app. It’s a nifty tool that lets you check for bus stops/services near your current location, including live arrival times.

Tram

The nearest tram stop to ECCI is on Princes Street, about 15-20 minute’s walk from our hub. There is only one tram route, but it’s a smooth and frequent service. Use it to get to/from the airport with ease, or from the west of the city into the centre.

The Transport for Edinburgh app mentioned above covers trams as well as buses.

Train

Edinburgh Waverley is the main railway station, right in the city centre by Princes Street. It’s an easy 15-minute walk from ECCI.

Haymarket railway station is a 30-45-minute walk from us (depending on your pace), or short bus ride away.

Have a look at the above sections (walk, cycle, bus, tram) to figure your journey and mode of transport out.

Taxi

It’s not usually very difficult to find a taxi in central Edinburgh. You’ll see the traditional black cabs all over, and you can often just hail one in the street. There are also taxi ranks around the city centre, including at Waverley station.

A one-way taxi trip from Waverley to ECCI will typically set you back around £7.

Electric car

We have two Elektromotive Electrobay 305 electric vehicle charging posts at ECCI.

The charging plug output is 22kW (32 Amps) AC, three phase, and they’re Type 2 (EN62196-2), Mode 3 (EN61851-1) compliant.

Your access card for the Charge Your Car network of pay-as-you-go EV charge points will work with these posts. Our Charge Your Car site number is 50389.

This is a publicly available charging point within a University of Edinburgh Car Park. There is no requirement to display a permit when parked within the designated bay AND charging.

*Please note that there is only two parking spaces available for charging your vehicle at this site.*

Vehicle must be charging. 4 hour maximum stay. Available 24 hours a day 365 days a year. If gates to High School Yards are closed please contact University of Edinburgh Security on 0131 650 2257.

City Car Club

ECCI is the site for the UK's first City Car Club electric vehicle. Our staff and residents can sign up for one year's free membership if they wish.

Car

We don’t have our own car park at ECCI. There is some on-street parking in the area, but it’s expensive and designed for short stays.

Disabled parking

If you’re a driver with mobility issues and have a Blue Badge, you don’t have to pay for on-street parking.

Car parks nearby

There are two car parks within walking distance of ECCI:

  • Blackfriars Street, just off the Royal Mile
  • St John's Hill on the Pleasance

This City of Edinburgh Council list of all city centre car parks includes maps and realtime information on space availability. You’ll find more information on the council's parking spaces web page.

We hope you found that helpful. Now that you know how to get here, fancy learning about our award-winning, low carbon building?
