Catalysing Change: Health and Climate Action

Presented by ECCI residents Edinburgh Earth Initiative, with iTPA Translational Community

In a world grappling with the far-reaching consequences of climate change, the intricate connection between our environment and our health has never been more apparent. Climate change has had many impacts on human health. Higher temperatures and extreme weather events are causing rising illness and death rates. Infectious diseases are becoming more widespread and appearing in new geographical locations. Farmers are struggling to grow crops and maintain healthy livestock, potentially leaving millions of people in conditions of food insecurity.

How can we alleviate these growing health problems, whilst simultaneously combating the planetary warming that is causing them?

Join Edinburgh Earth Initiative and iTPA Translational Community for this panel with three individuals who are actively working in this space, to discuss the differing ways in which we can support a healthier population in a continuously warming world:

  • Dr Erika Warnatzsch, the co-Programme Director for the ECCI-hosted online MSc in Carbon Management at the University of Edinburgh
  • Emma Carroll-Monteil, Sustainability and Community Engagement Professional
  • Douglas Martin, Founder & CEO of MiAlgae, a sustainable food company, and alumnus of the University of Edinburgh
