This privacy notice tells you how we will collect and use your personal data.

ECCI community

The Edinburgh Climate Change Institute (ECCI) is at the heart of an active community of organisations, professionals, students and members of the public who are working towards, or interested in, creating a thriving zero carbon future.

ECCI processes (collects, stores and uses) the data of some people in this community who use our services or who have come into contact with us through projects, events, meetings or study and have provided us with their contact details.

How we use information about you

Under the ‘legitimate interest’ legal basis of the General Data Protection Regulation 2016/679, ECCI uses the personal information that you provide to us, as a professional contact or a current or former student of the University of Edinburgh, in order to:

  • Provide you with programmes you are participating in or support or services you have requested
  • Collaborate with you on shared initiatives, opportunities, projects and bids
  • Administer your attendance at our events, and share follow-up information such as presentations

We will not pass your information on to any third parties.

How we keep your data safe

ECCI has processes in place to keep your information secure, accurate and up to date. We use secure University of Edinburgh filing and email systems.

In addition, we use the following companies to process your information:

  • Eventbrite: to allocate tickets for events. Read their privacy policy.

We follow University of Edinburgh procedures to ensure that we hold your information only for as long as is necessary and in full compliance with the University’s Data Retention Schedule.
