Driving global youth action for climate adaptation in food systems

by CCAFS | GAIN | FF | IAAS | WUR

The CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS), the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN), The Food Foundation (FF), the International Association of Students in Agricultural and Related Sciences (IAAS) and Wageningen University & Research (WUR) are pleased to be hosting the #Act4Food #Act4Change Youth event at the ‘Youth4Climate: Driving Ambition’ – a landmark youth event hosted by the Italian Government just prior to Pre-COP26.

The event is intended for youth from all around the globe to participate and engage in efforts and movements around food security under a changing climate. The event also aims to create awareness of the Pledge initiative - a youth-led promise galvanising action to defeat hunger, improve health and heal the planet. The pledge brings together young people from around the world to focus on their personal action as a contribution to system change, and to urge governments and businesses to act boldly and urgently.

The event is planned to be held as a hybrid event – to cater for both in person attendance and also virtual attendance around the globe. It will consist of two sessions – the first session “Paving the way for youth-led action for climate adaptation in food systems” will feature a keynote presentation followed by a roundtable of three youth climate leaders from different regions presenting their vlog presentation to showcase examples of youth-led efforts, which aims to inspire further youth-led action around the world. The second session “Mobilizing Youth-POWER for COP26: The rise of a global movement” will be chaired by a youth activist and influencer to introduce the Pledge that aims to gather millions of signatures from young people across the globe, to push for nutrition and food systems transformation.
