One-day Discussion Forum for Marine Science, Engineering, Aquaculture & Ocean Policy Researchers

Aimed at building an ocean research community at the University of Edinburgh

Researchers from across the University are invited to join in a one day forum to discuss marine science, engineering and aquaculture research, and how to move forward to increase impact, maximise involvement in upcoming initiatives, and address United Nations sustainable development goals and other policy drivers.

The forum will lay the groundwork for a high-level position paper outlining how the University of Edinburgh will respond to the societal goals of the UN Decade of Ocean Science. It will collate information on the University’s expertise, infrastructure and relevant research and teaching/capacity building activities.

Despite the excellent ocean-related research being done by individuals and small groups, the University has little cross-institutional awareness and limited external visibility in this arena. This forum aims to change in the lead up to the 150th anniversary of the Challenger expedition in 2022, Scotland’s Year of Coasts and Waters in 2020 and the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030).
