The University of Edinburgh is proud to announce that it has been granted consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).
This status empowers the University community to actively participate in the multifaceted work of the UN, including attending international conferences, making both written and oral contributions, organising side events, and accessing UN premises and its various human rights mechanisms.
This is a significant opportunity for the University to contribute to and influence global policy and development, and we are committed to providing all University staff and students with equal opportunities to benefit from his new opportunity.
Workshop Objectives
This 2.5h Workshop is designed to:
- Introduce the Consultative Status: Understand what ECOSOC consultative status involves and what it means for our University.
- Highlight Opportunities: Showcase the direct benefits that individual researchers and the University community can gain from engaging with UN events and processes. This session will feature a five-minute "show and tell" segment with contributions from a range of University academics. The event provides a chance to showcase a few distinct personal stories from academics who work with UN agencies and build a community that inspires and motivates!
- Develop Engagement Protocols: Review and discuss a prototype process for University staff and students to apply for participation in UN events under this status. We will gather feedback to refine our approach.
- Plan Implementation: Outline and establish the subsequent steps for formalising and activating our involvement with ECOSOC-related activities.
- The event is open to all University staff and students interested in leveraging our new consultative status for academic and professional development.
