ClimateXChange welcomes new programme manager

Dr Dan Barlow has taken up the post of Programme Manager for ClimateXChange, Scotland’s centre of expertise on climate change based at ECCI.

Dan joins ClimateXChange after five years as a Senior Researcher on climate change and resource use issues for the Scottish Parliament Information Centre.

The Programme Manager is a key post linking ClimateXChange's research resource with demand for analysis and research from policy teams and public agencies.

Before working at the Scottish Parliament, Dan held a number of policy, research and management roles in the environmental NGO sector. This included seven years as Head of Policy for WWF Scotland and a period as the charity's Acting Director.

Dan said:

"I'm delighted to be joining ClimateXChange and look forward to working with the team in their work to help inform and underpin the policies required to deliver Scotland's low carbon ambitions.

"Building on Scotland's progress to date in cutting emissions and becoming more resilient to the impacts of climate change will demand new approaches and innovative solutions.

"Sound research and evidence will be key in helping map these out and maintaining Scotland's leadership role on climate change."

ECCI Executive Director and ClimateXChange Policy Director Andy Kerr said: “I'm really pleased to welcome Dan as the new ClimateXChange Programme Manager - he brings a wealth of experience and knowledge from his time at the Scottish Parliament and previous roles.

"The Programme Manager plays a key role at the interface between government policy teams, the ClimateXChange secretariat and the excellent research networks across Scotland.

"With the recent publication of the Scottish Energy Strategy and Climate Change Plan, and a forthcoming Climate Change Bill, we want to be at the heart of providing independent, robust analysis and evidence to support public policy development and implementation in Scotland and elsewhere.”
