Low carbon future for University of Edinburgh

The University of Edinburgh, which hosts ECCI, has announced that it will complete its transition out of fossil fuel investments within three years.

The decision, approved by the University’s ruling body the University Court, follows its recent commitment to become carbon neutral by 2040.

Andy Kerr, Director of ECCI and Professor of Low Carbon and Climate Innovation at the University of Edinburgh, was a member of the Fossil Fuel Working Group which advised the University Court on the decision.

The University is at the forefront of international research on climate change and the technologies and policies needed to mitigate its effects.

It has invested more than £150 million in low carbon technology, climate-related research and businesses that directly benefit the environment since 2010, including in the creation of ECCI.
