World first for SCCS

ECCI residents Scottish Carbon Capture and Storage (SCCS) will help teach the world’s first open online course exploring climate change and carbon capture and storage technology, just launched by the University of Edinburgh.

The free five-week massive open online course, or MOOC, will explain carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology in the context of climate change, global energy and economics, our use of fossil fuels and global climate policy.

The course, which begins on Thursday 15 March 2018, is suitable for anyone with a keen interest in learning how technology can help rein in the worst impacts of climate change in a world of increasing population and energy needs.

The aim is to give participants a better understanding of climate change mitigation options and encourage further study. One option for those interested in exploring the topic further is the CCS Masters programme also developed by the University of Edinburgh, which was the first in the UK.

The MOOC will be taught by leading academics at the University, including members of the SCCS Directorate.
