Dan is leading the development of activities to support academic engagement around the scrutiny of climate change in collaboration with the universities of Edinburgh, Glasgow, Strathclyde, Stirling and the Scottish Parliament.
Until April 2022, Dan led ClimateXChange, overseeing its work to inform and underpin the policies required to deliver Scotland's low carbon ambitions.
Before joining ClimateXChange, Dan was a Senior Researcher on climate change and resource use issues for the Scottish Parliament Information Centre.
He has also held a number of policy, research and management roles in the environmental NGO sector. This includes seven years as Head of Policy for WWF Scotland and a period as the charity’s Acting Director.
Dan has a degree in Environmental Science from the University of Plymouth. He also holds a PhD in soil erosion and land use change from the University of Edinburgh.

They contribute to the climate work of ECCI, the School of Geosciences and the wider University through forging new connections and collaborations, and through providing expert advice and support.
