ClimateXChange announces four exciting job opportunities

Scotland’s centre of expertise on climate change, based at ECCI, is on the hunt for new talent to join a new, expanded ClimateXChange Programme

Four new roles are now open for recruitment, including Programme Manager, two Project Manager roles and a Communications Manager position.

ClimateXChange brings together researchers and policy-makers, acting as a knowledge broker between the two to create evidence-based policies for a low carbon, climate ready Scotland.

The ClimateXChange Secretariat team is based at ECCI. ECCI Director, Prof Dave Reay, is the organisation's Policy Director.

Four opportunities

Project Manager – Climate and Energy 

The role is responsible for leading the development and delivery of ClimateXChange’s portfolio of work on climate and energy policy aimed at providing the Scottish Government with timely, accessible and relevant knowledge and data to inform the development and implementation of policy. In the context of Scotland’s commitments to achieve a net-zero future and support a just transition we expect the Scottish Government to publish a refreshed Energy Strategy and start work on the development of Scotland’s next Climate Change Plan over the coming year.

Your skills and attributes for success:

  • Expertise in climate and energy policy
  • Demonstrable experience of connecting research and policy on this agenda
  • Experience in research project management
  • A track record of writing for a policy audience
  • Excellent communication skills

Programme Manager 

The Programme Manager is a critical post, managing the ClimateXChange secretariat and acting as the bridge between the demand for analysis and research on climate issues by policy and analytical staff across the Scottish Government policy and analytical teams and its supply from research providers. The post-holder will lead the delivery of a new ClimateXChange programme scheduled to run from April 2022-March 2025.

Your skills and attributes for success:

  • Extensive experience and a strong track record of working in, or very closely with, Government and of managing research teams and outputs.
  • Significant staff and budget management experience
  • Experience of working in a knowledge brokerage role
  • Project management skills
  • Good knowledge of UK and Scottish climate change and related policy frameworks
  • Excellent communication skills

Project Manager: Climate and economy, business and industry 

The role is responsible for leading the development and delivery of ClimateXChange’s portfolio of work related to the economy, business and industry. The role involves building and managing collaborative relationships with multiple key stakeholders including Scottish Government and agency project clients and research providers to ensure delivery of outputs meets high standard expectations.

  • Expertise in economic, business and industrial policy linked to decarbonisation
  • Demonstrable experience of connecting research and policy on this agenda
  • Experience in research project management
  • A track record of writing for a policy audience
  • Excellent communication skills

Communications Manager

The role is responsible for external and internal programme communications, and designing and delivering communications across a number of audiences and projects. We are looking for a Communications Manager with an editor’s eye for detail, a firm grip on writing Plain English and a flair for engaging a range of audiences on complex issues across social media and events. The post holder line manages a part-time Communications Officer.

  • Experience in a strategic communications role
  • Experience of developing and implementing effective communications strategies
  • Proven track record of writing and editing for a policy audience
  • Expertise across a range of digital media communications
  • Experience working with a range of suppliers of design and other media services
