ECCI back on the hunt for budding entrepreneurs
ECCI is on the hunt for a new batch of budding Scottish climate entrepreneurs eager to take their markets by storm as applications open today for the centre's Climate-KIC Accelerator 2019, which aims to get low carbon start-ups investment-ready.
The programme offers early stage entrepreneurs access to up to €20,000 grant funding, business coaching with experienced professionals, a range of masterclasses and free workspace at ECCI’s vibrant Edinburgh hub. Stages 1 and 2 of the programme - which to help companies find their market niche and figure out how to scale up - are open to applications.
New recruits will join the 22 new cutting-edge Scottish businesses that have already benefitted from ECCI’s Climate-KIC business support programmes. In 2018 alone, ECCI entrepreneurs bagged funding of over £1.75 million and scooped an impressive 54 awards.
High-achieving Climate-KIC Accelerator alumni include:
- MiAlgae, which aims to revolutionise the animal and fish feed industries with microalgae made from whisky co-products
- Clean Water Wave's innovative water treatment system, aiming to help provide clean, safe drinking water for 10 million people within the next 10 years
- Alterwaste, which creates eco-friendly products out of industrial waste by-products including eggshells.
Clean Water Wave founder Stephanie Terreni Brown said: “The Climate-KIC Accelerator Stage 1 and 2 programme really helped Clean Water Wave go from being an idea to being a big step closer to a dream realised.
In our short time on Accelerator Stage 1, we incorporated as a company, developed our business model and attracted funding so we could pilot our project.”
