IntelliDigest RSE award

ECCI’s resident anaerobic digestion experts IntelliDigest have been awarded a prestigious Royal Society of Edinburgh Enterprise Fellowship.

The fellowships enable promising science and technology researchers to develop into successful entrepreneurs.

Awardees get to focus solely on refining their business ideas, whilst receiving one year’s salary, expert training in entrepreneurship and access to mentorship from business Fellows of the RSE and other successful entrepreneurs in the business community.

IntelliDigest, currently taking part in the Climate-KIC Accelerator programme at ECCI, is developing the world’s first autonomous, resilient and ultra-small scale organic waste digester for onsite waste recycling.

Director Ifeyinwa Kanu said: 

“Our aim is to efficiently convert all biodegradable waste to high value resource, reducing greenhouse gas emission and promoting a circular economy.

"This award is vital in getting us to the next stage to achieve our goals.

ECCI is home to two other RSE Enterprise Fellows, who benefit from our world class office space and the opportunity to be a part of our vibrant low carbon community.

John Ferguson, a former participant in the ECCI Ideas Lab, has received a fellowship to develop his ethical business the East Africa Sisal Company. The start-up makes sustainable textiles from sisal, a super-strong, highly sustainable fibre crop.

Murray Collins’ fellowship is to support the spin-out of a green IT company called Space Intelligence. The business uses remote sensing data, mostly from radar satellites, to make maps of forests around the world and monitor how these forests are being affected by human activity such as deforestation.
