Scottish Parliament’s Environment Committee calls for greater urgency on climate change

The Scottish Parliament’s Environment, Climate Change and Land Reform Committee has called for greater urgency of action on climate change across all parts of Government, the public and private sectors and individuals.

In a report published last week, the committee supports setting ambitious climate targets and says "the benefits and cost savings of early action outweigh the costs of the effects of climate change".

The recommendations are part of the Stage 1 report on the Scottish Government’s Climate Change Bill, which will now trigger a debate in the Scottish Parliament. Research by ClimateXChange, based at ECCI, is referenced a number of times in the report.

ClimateXChange is Scotland’s centre of expertise on climate change. It brings together researchers and policy-makers, to inform evidence-based policies for a low carbon, climate-ready Scotland.
